On 23rd of July 2013, the first official ceremony to commemorate the Police Memorial Day was held. The 23rd of July was the day when Police Sergeant Adam Haleem fell in line of duty in K. Kaashidhoo while he attempted to apprehend an individual who was escaping house arrest. The reason why the Maldives Police Service specified this day as a day of remembrance is because he was the first Officer to fall in line of duty from an adverse attack. The Police Memorial Day is marked annually as a day of remembrance of the fallen officers who sacrificed their lives in line of duty for the safety of others. A Digital Memorial Wall was launched during the Memorial Day celebration in 2019 by the Commissioner of Police. The website has been filled with amazing stories of our heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve and protect the nation.
